Annual Renewal Instructions

Certification is maintained and renewed every year provided the following criteria are met:

• The maintenance fees are to be paid no later that June 30 of each year. Renewal invoices are mailed approximately 60 days in advance. Maintenance fees received after June 30 will be assessed a $30 late fee.

Fees are as follows:
$50 for CAS, CAAPP-1, CCJAS, *CBHT
$75 for CAC, CAAPP-2, CCJAC
$125 for CAP, CAPP, CCJAP, CMHP

Counselors holding more than one credential pay a $50 fee for each additional certification.

• The certified is required to complete 20 CEUs annually whether they are being audited or not. CEUs may be obtained in any professional practice dimension or transdisciplinary foundation or in a counseling or addiction area. *Only 10 hours (ceus) are needed for the CBHT level. Documentation of these CEUs must be retained until requested for audit purposes. When audited, the counselor must submit documentation of *10/20 CEUs from the previous year (June-June). FCB uses a random computer-generated audit system to confirm CEU requirement compliance. Approximately 25% of the certified population will be audited each year. While this means that not everyone will be audited every year, each counselor can expect to be audited at least once every 4 years. Once audited, a certified’s name is not removed from the pool.

• Continuing education is gained only through approved FCB providers or providers approved by other ICRC/AODA certification boards, education from accredited institutions of high learning, or approved by other licensing and member boards such as Dept. of Professional Regulation -DPR, Nursing Board, Dept. of Children & Families, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, etc. Education from these sources must be addiction, counseling, criminal justice, prevention/early intervention or something closely related to the certification you hold. One hundred percent of the CEUs for renewal can come from home-study programs, distance learning, or Internet courses that have been approved by FCB.

The certified will only receive the certification validation card after both maintenance fees and CEUs (late fees if necessary) have been received and approved. This card will prove the current validity of the professional’s status.

Inactive Status

A credential may be placed on Inactive Status in one of two ways. Failure to pay annual renewal fees and submit required CEUs by the July 31st deadline will automatically result in an inactive certification. Counselors will receive notification that their certification is inactive and the steps necessary to reinstate. Names will also be posted in the FCB Newsletter.
A counselor may choose to place their certification on inactive status for a maximum of three years. A written request must be sent if this option is taken. During the inactive period, counselors are not entitled to use their credentials.

Reinstatement

The certified must submit a written request, proof of 20 current CEUs, the current year’s renewal fee and a $200 reinstatement fee. NOTE: If you are currently certified at one of the professional levels (CAP, CCJAP, CAPP) level and DO NOT hold a minimum of a Bachelor degree, you will be required to obtain one prior to reinstatement.

Returned Checks

Renewal payments that are returned due to non-sufficient funds, account closure, stop payment, etc. will be assessed a $30 fee.
